Library Policies
Purpose
Library classes are organized to facilitate a positive relationship with reading, wide book access, and strong information and digital literacy skills.
Book Access
Allen students have access to the print collection as well as digital reading options on SORA.
Book Care
Library materials are shared and should be treated with great care. You can encourage your student to take care of library books by using good reading habits:
- Keep library books in a safe place. Clean backpacks are a great choice! Make sure water bottles are sealed, though!
- Carry books with two hands making sure the spine is supported
- Wash hands before reading or handling books
- Keep food and drink away from library books
- Please tell the librarian about any torn pages or writing noticed inside a book
Overdue Items
Overdue notices are emailed weekly (books checked out for more than two weeks will receive an overdue notice).
Damaged or Lost Items
Allen does not charge for late books. However, if a book is irreparably damaged or lost for more than one month (including water damage, missing pages, drawing, etc.), a replacement will be requested.
How many books can be checked out?
Young 5’s/Kindergarten = 1 choice book
1st/2nd grade = 2 choice books
3rd/4th/5th grade = 3 choice books
Grades 3-5 may also have a reading buddy book
Grades 2-5 may also have a bonus informational book or project book
