John Allen School is a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in the Ann Arbor Public School District. Opened in February, 1961, it was named for John Allen, the founder of Ann Arbor. John Allen was known as a man of action who "dreamed of open spaces and fresh opportunities." The school is adjacent to Buhr Park and Cobblestone Farm. It was built on properly formerly a part of the Ticknor Farm. The school mascot is the eagle and the colors are red and white. The School Building Within the school, classroom arrangements vary based on the teaching sty1es of the teacher and the input of the students. Most rooms have individual school desks, an attached rest room, a teacher's desk, and various tables, shelves and other work areas. Low tables and chairs are used in the kindergarten rooms rather than individual desks with more space open for play and group activities. Each room is equipped with hooks and shelves for jackets, boots, and backpacks; there are no student lockers. There are special rooms for classes such as art, physical education, music, library, and computer lab.
Allen Elementary School is filled with dedicated and professional staff who strive to create the optimal learning environment for students. All students, staff and parents are valued members of the Allen community.
